(How could he punch them from all the way over there?) She stumbled when he let go and landed unceremoniously on her behind, her fumbled journal clattering to the ground next to her. By the time she'd retrieved it, Riku was already firing back with his own magic.

She scrambled to get out of harm's way, too frightened to try and stand up yet. This is all wrong! she wanted to shout. Please, stop! But the words caught in her throat.
