Another World, Another Fate [Complete]
Character(s): Furude Rika, Alice Liddle
Content: Rika enters Paixao.
Setting: Niflheim Gate
Time: Morning
Warnings: None
Unlike most who arrived in Paixao, Rika's first thought was that she must be in another world. It was a full five seconds, laying on the ground where she had fallen, before she realized that this was absurd. She had not died in the previous one; there was no need to move on to another. Furthermore, Hanyuu's powers of time travel had been worn thin. She sat up abruptly, eyes wide.
"Hanyuu!" Rika called.
And then she realized this was nothing like Hinamizawa. She sat before a large gate, all silvery ice, so much so it even looked cold. Beyond that, a village or city, she couldn't tell, which seemed to have been built inside a dome. A line of people--blond-haired and pale, all of them, how odd--waiting to go inside.
Hanyuu wasn't responding. Rika called again, waited. Nothing.
This was not Hinamizawa. This was a world far more peculiar than any of the ones she had been in. What was she to do here? She had to go home. She had just fixed everything there; everything was going to be okay. And now this? She felt like she was being toyed with.
What force was at work here, to bring her here? She did not know. But Furude Rika would find out. She stood, moved to the back of the line, waited her turn. A guard, as pale and blond as the rest of them, smiled down at her.
"Your name?" the guard asked as he put together some sort of package Rika could not see.
A moment's hesitation--people who appeared here were not considered strange? "Furude Rika, nipa~!" She smiled brightly, childishly.
The guard wrote something down--her name, presumably--and handed her a pale violet machine, along with a handful of brochures. "Welcome to Paixao! Here's your journal and information on the city. Enjoy your stay."
"Excuse me, but can you tell me how I got here?" Rika asked, keeping her innocent smile on her face as she accepted the items.
The guard was ignoring her; Rika recognized the way he made a point of looking intently at the next person in line, of writing the name carefully, of handing over the journal and brochures and moving on quickly. She had seen similar treatment of Satoko at home, before things had been fixed. The guards would be of no help--she would figure it out on her own, then.
She continued into the city, to see what fate had in store for her here--and to change that, if necessary.

"Hello," Rika said, letting the childish tone come to the forefront; people were more likely to help a little lost girl, after all. "I just got here. Is there really no way back?"
She had spoken with Ivan on the journal, and he had said there wasn't. But Rika couldn't help but hope that maybe he just hadn't known the way.
no subject
Of course, the reminder this was not a dream lay in her right high heeled boot: the vorpal blade, her surest reason of where she was.
"I am Alice," The older girl replied. "I figured you just arrived here: you were at the gates, it is how most of us arrive here. As far as I know, no there is no way to return to your world. You can take it from me when I tell you that this fact is the least of your problems."
no subject
"I'm Rika," she said, and tilted her head to one side slightly. "Problems? What kind of problems?"
If this world was anything like her old one, she wouldn't be surprised to hear of mysterious murders and illnesses. But maybe this world didn't have such problems? Still, if there was some sort of organization... Rika had had problems with mysterious organizations before.

"We have a group of rather dark characters that are playing us about like puppets, you know. they mat be the very reason why you're here in the first place. I couldn't say for sure of course, but the truth of the matter is, we've been doing our best to combat these people, and they aren't the only mystery. We also have strange white creatures that attack, an assortment of other strange characters dropped here, and the business of getting from place to place. Have you spied your map yet?"
no subject
Still, if she died here--
But she wouldn't. She refused to. She would get back home. Nothing else mattered to her.
"Mi... A map?" Rika echoed, blinking. No, she hadn't seen one, but they hadn't really given her much: just a box and some papers. "Where?"
no subject
"Yes, you get a map along with these little box device. The box acts as a way to keep in contact with others and also works as a journal of sorts for recollections of things that happened throughout the day. It helps to keep it, really. I can demonstrate how it works, but I think it might be better if we get out of here and go get a bite to eat. How does that sound?"
no subject
"I talked with someone else with the journals," Rika said, indicating that she at least knew a bit of their function. Such a device she was not familiar with; it was certainly interesting technology.
But it just hadn't come about in her world yet, she was sure. Not too much later on, there would be things like this, she thought.

Alice raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Friendly at least?"
no subject
Rika did indeed have questions; the fastest way out of here would be to figure out whatever had brought her here and go back the same way. If someone was behind it, she would just have to stop them.
no subject
Alice gestured outward. "Shall we go to dine then?"
no subject
But here she just didn't know enough. he would have to take the chance if she wanted to get anywhere. She smiled. "Thank you! Nipa~!"
no subject
Alice paused. "Curious. I'm afraid my century, from what I've determined, is a bit out of date, and I have no recollection of ever hearing the endearment 'Nipa' before. What does it mean?"
no subject
That was an understatement. Thousands of times, over and over... But she didn't have the same safety net she was used to. Still, something would have to be done.
