True to form, the secretary neither heard nor saw the visitors following her. The mayor's office wasn't far from the foyer, just up a flight of stairs and a few doors down the hallway; she stopped long enough to knock first. "Mr. Heirwidthal?" Getting no more response than she had over the intercom, she tried again. "Sir?" That was very, very odd... Worried, she finally opened the door and peered inside.

As she'd thought, the mayor had, indeed, not left the building. Instead, he lay slumped over his desk, his head buried in his arms. Perplexed, she approached the desk and hesitantly shook him. "S-sir? Are you all right?" she asked, but he remained motionless...

It was only then that she noticed the hole in the back of his neck.

She gasped and straightened up, covering her mouth with one hand. "Oh dear. Oh - oh dear," she whispered, backing away from the body. What was she supposed to tell his visitors now? Should she hide him? A second later she realized the door was still open, and she hurried out, shutting it quickly behind her and scurrying back the way she'd come. How on earth was she going to explain this...
