Foundation Day Festival: Food Tent

Character(s): everyone in the food tent
Content: food, and lots of it.
Setting: Joco da Crianca Fairgrounds, food tent
Time: all day~
Warnings: Multithreaded posting format (please include time of day and sub-location in your comment's subject line)

The food tent is the second biggest structure at the fair, next to the Ferris wheel. It's a large white tent set up near the far end of the grounds. Inside, the majority of the tent is filled with long tables (with white plastic tablecloths) and benches for seating.

The food, along one side of the tent, is set up buffet-style. They have a wide variety of hot and cold dishes, and it's all good stuff, having been catered by Café Ersesat. It's always well-stocked, too, somehow; if they run out of anything, it's replenished within a few minutes. There is also a small bar, where alcoholic drinks and cocktails are available upon request to anyone who looks old enough.

Nina paused for a moment and moved to her journal, looking through it until she found the comment Alice had made regarding funnel cake.

"A sort of fried concoction made with a silver pan, weaved in just the right way so it looks like an intertwined "cake," served with various topping. Good, in my estimation," the journal chirped.

See, it sounds really really good! But I've never seen it before, so I don't know exactly what it looks like. That didn't dampen her mood one bit, though--it just meant they would have to taste everything to find it!

"I hope you can find him," Nina said; she didn't know where Big Brother, Small Big Brother, or Daddy were, but she had Alexander, and Repliku had been all by himself, so he must have been sad.

Alexander, meanwhile, was continuing to sample everything on the table. Being a large dog with a little girl on his back had its advantages.

After causing such a scene, it was typical of Larxene to run off. She always appeared to, leaving her victims in a state of wishing she had finished them off. Anger, fear, pain... She always got away and always appeared again where you least wanted her to. Timon had never encountered such a heartless monster as her. Compared to the Nobody, the hyenas were were only after his lunch money.

Having listened to the screams of those he knew, force himself to pry his sight away from their agony, the entire situation itself... It was a large leap from what he'd been used to seeing, even coming from a meerkat colony; a twenty four seven open buffet. The jungle scene had been so relaxing, peaceful. There was no such violence, cries echoing throughout the trees. At least, not that he wanted to remember.

The meerkat felt so awfully out of place, he was a terrified child. Being surrounded by such terrible things, thinking back to the night in the alley when it was him receiving such treatment from the organization member... Blocking out all the bad things was difficult. He never liked talking about such topics (or thinking of them), avoiding it when he could.

But before he could deny the entire meeting, run from cloud of uncharacteristic feelings and thoughts hanging over him, he wanted to at least see that everyone was okay, especially Flonne. He watched, brave enough without Larxene's presence now to stay long enough to see the girl received proper medical attention. Though he was positive Laharl, Death, and Etna would bring her immediately.

Death didn't have emotions. It was simple as that, really. He simply didn't come equipped with them, and nothing was going to change that.

It should have stopped him from forming attachments.

It didn't.

Being unable to hit Larxene and watching Flonne be hurt by her...helplessness was what it was. He'd not experienced it before. He'd never gone into a situation where he'd not held at least one of the cards. It was new to him, and it was not something he appreciated.

Unable to express it through anger he did not have, that helplessness found a new outlet: a cold, steely determination. He would see this Organization taken down. He would orchestrate it himself if possible.

But for now, there were more pressing matters at hand. He glanced towards Timon, making sure he was alright, before putting his scythe away and moving towards the tangle that was Laharl and Flonne, offering his hand to help them rise. WE SHOULD FIND MEDICAL ATTENTION, he stated the obvious, AND FAST. I BELIEVE THERE IS A TENT AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE FESTIVAL THAT WILL PROVIDE SUCH SHOULD WE ASK.

Repliku tilted his head and simply listened as the journal told them just what exactly funnel cake was. He certainly had never heard of it before but at least he had a rough idea what it was they were looking for now. It was better than having no idea at all. He nodded and scanned the table once more before slowly starting to move along it, making sure he kept an eye on Nina and Alexander.

"I hope so too," he paused in his search to smile warmly at her. Sadness wasn't something the replica would show easily. He might have been lonely, yes but then if you thought carefully about it he always had been alone, hadn't he? These were thoughts he tried his best not to think about and luckily Nina was there to distract him from them.

Laharl's eyes only had a brief moment to widen before he had Flonne colliding into him and he found himself toppling backwards from the force. Automatically his arms found their way around her, one around her waist and the other over her shoulder and bent up over the crown of her head protectively as he fell hard onto his back with a grunt.

It took a moment to register what had happened. He heard... Etna? And saw out of the corner of his eye the dark trails of Larxene's portal vanish. Damnit, she got away. Oh well, whatever, there were more important things. Like dealing with the weeping fallen angel, laying on top of him.

He could feel her tears on his neck as he held her, and he continued to lay there for several long moments simply doing so as he finally had a moment to let out a sigh of relief. She was safe now. Hurt, but safe. No thanks to him, however.... Well, first things first, he had to get them off the ground.

Normally he would have blushed, spluttered and more likely than not have simply spazzed at being in such a position, however her pain filled cries subdued any such inclinations. Slowly Laharl began to move his hand from her head and pushed back her hair. "Flonne?" he mumbled softly after a moment, but didn't wait for a reply, "I'm moving now.... okay?"

Glancing up at Death's offered hand, he shook his head, waving it off, as he could manage fine himself. Shifting his grasp around her, he carefully eased her partially to the ground as he rolled to his side then moved onto his knees, but still held her head and shoulders up against him. Reaching for his cloak, he quickly pulled it off and wrapped it around her. That done, he slid his other arm beneath her knees and scooped her up like she weighed nothing, rising to his feet quite easily from there.

"No way," Laharl replied Death's suggestion with vehemence, "I trust them as much as I trust Larxene. I just want to get the hell out of here." He felt pretty sure Etna or he could bandage up her arm just as easily as they could, and it would be easier to clean up in a bathroom anyways. No, there was no way they were sticking around. He just wanted to get her far away from here.

Flonne let out a sharp cry as she collided with Laharl, her injured arm caught between her chest and his. Dazed, she lay where she was - namely, on top of Laharl - sobbing and crying from the pain that had nearly blinded her.

She didn't hear Laharl's words and barely felt the cloak being wrapped around her, but she could move enough to wrap her good arm around Laharl's shoulders as he lifted her, and she clung tightly to him, sobbing loudly and completely unwilling to let go anytime soon.

Nina smiled back and wrapped her arms around his leg to hug him--she was small, so it was the best she could do. Alexander wagged his tail absently, but was more distracted with devouring an entire plate of hot dogs not too far away.

"Since you're looking for someone and I am too, we should look together!" Nina suggested happily; after all, it was more fun to be around other people.

"But funnel cake first." Nina had her priorities, after all.

Repliku gently patted the child on the head as a way of returning the affection. He briefly wondered whether it was such a good idea to let Alexander roam about, would there be any food left after the dog was done? Then again everything was free, so who cared?

"Oh? Who are you looking for?" Repliku's interest was piqued, were there people from her homeworld here? On that subject, he didn't recall asking her where she was from. "Where do you come from?"

The replica snickered, she sure had her priorities straight although in that kind of fashion only kids could have. There was another quick scan over the tables and a pause when he noticed something that looked like it could funnel cake. "I think I found it," he announced with a grin.

"I'm looking for Big Brother and Small Big Brother," Nina chirped. "I was talking to them with my box and they said they'd come find me but I don't know where they are."

She hadn't received any messages from them lately--she would have to check her box again to make sure. Maybe they were looking for her and just hadn't checked their boxes lately.

"I'm from Amestris," Nina said. "And I live in a big house with my daddy and Alexander! Where're you from?"

Nina's eyes widened at Repliku's last statement, and she hopped up and down, trying to look at the tables. There! "Funnel cake, funnel cake!" She made a mad dash for it.

"Do your brothers have any names?" Nina hadn't mentioned any brothers before and they were looking for her? Repliku would have to see if he could contact them and get Nina back to her family.

Amestris....Not a world he had heard of before but there were many worlds out there and he only knew a few. "I'm from..." Destiny Islands "Castle Oblivion." Again there was no mention of the brothers, but if they were her brothers surely they lived with her? "What about your brothers?"

Repliku followed at a more sedate pace, pausing for a moment to whistle and hope it would prompt Alexander into following. Finally their long search for the famed funnel cake came to an end, it seemed.

Re: 2:36 PM

Nina spoke only between bites of funnel cake--now that she had it, she simply had to try it immediately, of course. And it was delicious. She offered some to Repliku. When Alexander trotted over, prompted by the whistle, the dog was given a taste as well.

"They're not my brother brothers," Nina explained. "But they're still big brothers!" It made sense to her, anyway--they were like older siblings to her; they took care of her and played with her and had even lived with her for a while.

"They're called Edward and Alphonse Elric! They know alchemy, and they lived with daddy for a while to study for a test, but then they had to go." She frowned--she had wanted to them to stay and play with her longer. Of course, they had promised to come back.

"Castle O-bliv-ian?" Nina echoed. "What's it like there?"

Re: 2:36 PM

[identity profile] faked-heart.livejournal.com 2008-01-11 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
The replica accepted the funnel cake offered to him and took a bite. Now he wasn't usually one to be crazy about sweet things, that was Sora's job, but damn this was good.

"I see," Repliku nodded, strangely enough he understood the concept somewhat. Edward and Alphonse Elric, he'd be sure to remember those names. "Alchemy?" He pondered out loud. "Is that like the synthesizing Moogles do?" It was the only thing that came to mind.

"It's not so different from this place except it's a castle and not a city," he explained. "It's white and I suppose some would call it beautiful like this place, but it's boring."

Re: 2:36 PM

[identity profile] notachimera.livejournal.com 2008-01-11 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Nina, like many young children, adored anything sweet, and she was finding the funnel cake quite satisfactory. Alexander was more interested in licking the sugar off than eating the dough, but he was still content.

"I don't know what Moogles are, or what syyyn-the-siii-zing is. But Alchemy is where you draw a picture and turn things into other things! My daddy makes chimeras!"

She finished off her funnel cake in short order. Now that her mission had been accomplished, she could continue on with her other quests! Like finding Big Brother and Small Big Brother!

"Woow, a castle? Living in a castle should be fun!" It didn't seem like a castle could be boring. But maybe that castle had been.

Re: 2:36 PM

[identity profile] faked-heart.livejournal.com 2008-01-11 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Moogles are creatures that look like...teddy bears, sort of, they usually have a big red pompom on their head." Repliku might have called them cute but being that type of guy, cute wasn't something that appeared in his vocabulary often. "Synthesizing is when you combine several items together to form a new one," he explained further. Apparently, by the way Nina explained it, this alchemy wasn't quite the same. "Chimeras?" It almost sounded like a type of Heartless but he doubted that was what Nina meant.

"Yup, a castle. It should be but unfortunately this one wasn't as fun." He could imagine the sound of 'castle' to be quite grand in the ears of a child. Something from a fairy tale, unfortunately Castle Oblivion was anything BUT a fairy tale. Perhaps it could have been a better place if it wasn't the Organization that ran it. The poor castle never stood a chance.

Re: 2:36 PM

[identity profile] notachimera.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Chimeras are two animals made into one animal! Like you have a dog and a cat and you put them together!" That was the best way she knew how to explain it, anyway. She had been rather fuzzy on the whole thing, as her father was not keen on letting her into the area of the house he created the creatures.

Nina was picturing living teddy bears, now, with pompoms stuck to their heads like a hat. Being a four year old girl, she thought they sounded adorable, and decided if she ever met one, the Moogle would definitely get a hug. "Are there Moogles here?"

Nina had finished her funnel cake with all the speed of a young child who loved sugar--she could win a contest with that speed.

"I wanna go see a real castle, a fun one," Nina said. "But first I wanna see Big Brother and Small Big Brother."

She had her funnel cake. Maybe they could go find them now?

Re: 2:36 PM

[identity profile] faked-heart.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Repliku blinked at Nina's explanation about chimeras, combining two animals? That sounded quite odd, especially the example Nina had given. In his mind cats and dogs just didn't mix although it did make him curious as to what a chimera like that would look like. But why combine two animals anyway? The replica saw no point in it.

"I'm not sure," he replied. "You'll know it's a moogle when it says 'Kupo!' a lot." They were handy little creatures that could even be found in Castle Oblivion, Repliku had no idea how they got there or why they would even want to be there, but their purpose had been about the cards you used in the castle.

Repliku finished his funnel cake a bit slower than Nina had. A real castle, huh? A shame there were none around he could show her though he doubted they would be fun anyway. "Let's go look for them."

Now that Nina's first priority had been settled it was time to move onto the next. He took her hand and guided her out of the tent, hopefully they'd be able to find the persons they were looking for.
