Following him up the stairs and inside, Matt almost immediately recognized the smell of cigarettes. Had Mello started? No, the smell was too old to have been any time recent. It was one of the smells that came from a long time of chain smoking where it got into the furniture and carpet. The last him? Must have been. Matt looked around, catching sight of computer parts and random other things that he would normally be known to have. It was strange to see it all there when he had no recollection of ever having been present before.
He went further into the apartment, looking around a little, he eventually stopped at the bedroom. Leaning up against the door frame, he took the cigarette from behind his ear and finally lit it. More questions ran through his mind now that he'd finally seen what had been left of the previous him. He doubted Mello wanted to answer any of them, though. Instead, he decided off-hand comments were better. "Nice place, blondie. Hell of a lot better than our last one."
