Matt hadn't intentionally almost-fallen, but the fact he hadn't exactly had Mello look like that at him in quite a while was kind of hard to ignore. Especially after their conversation over the journals.
Following Mello away from the cafe, he shoved his hands into the pockets of his vest, glancing up at the sky and watching for a moment before looking over at Mello. Supplies was definitely a good idea. He would, at the very least, have smoked half a pack of cigarettes by the time they got to wherever Mello was staying, he was sure. He couldn't help it. A stressful situation on top of everything that had already happened? He was bound to be a little irritable, although it definitely helped to have his nicotine fix.
He did his best to listen to Mello's explanation, but the fact that he wasn't retaining most of what he told him about the city didn't seem to phase him. He was more focused on thinking about what exactly he would need so as not to drag Mello out again after they were done. Matt liked spending as little time as possible outside where ever he was staying; it was just how he was. "Hmm." A sort of grunt that he'd been listening to what Mello was telling him.
"Don't worry, I know that. Was just being an arse." Matt knew full well that Mello would never ask him to do something like that. Although Matt also knew that even if he did, he still wouldn't say no. It wasn't that he couldn't, but he had a complete unmatched loyalty to Mello that couldn't be hindered. Even by death. Still on that track of thought, the grope caught him off guard, causing his breath to hitch, though he didn't stop walking. Staring at Mello from the corner of his eye, he grumbled a little. "At least warn a guy, damn, mate."
