Where in the wet world...? [Active]
Character(s): Elisa Maza, Lan, ?
Content: Elisa arrives in Paixao, gets drenched, and seeks shelter. What a welcome!
Setting: Niflheim Gate & area [G10]
Time: Daytime
Warnings: N/A
Elisa resisted the automatic reaction to draw her gun, although being transported from the desk in her office to a field outside would have certainly qualified as provoking a reaction of self-defense. Almost immediately, she noted that the grassy field wasn't exactly that -- on closer examination, it appeared entirely fake. "What in the world...?" She reflexively checked her holster and was relieved that her firearm had made the transition with her. Captain'll kill me if I lose another one. I've still got requisition paperwork for the last 3!
She shielded her eyes from the sudden sunlight as she took a good look around. "Sunlight?" she realized, glancing up. Indeed, the sun was high above her. Had she somehow missed the whole night? If this is another one of Alex's 'lessons', Elisa thought fiercely, Puck and I are going to have a very long chat.
Turning in a slow, methodical circle, Elisa viewed an opaque dome, perhaps half a mile away. "Ishimura?" she wondered aloud, her mind instantly likening it to the fake habitat Taro had created. But no, this was definitely not Japan and in any case, this dome far surpassed Ishimura's in size. With the exception of the curvature rising into the sky, she couldn't see anything else except field, fake grass, and sunlight; not a single person to be found.
"Great," the detective groaned. Unzipping her jacket -- it was warm here, unlike the chilly 23rd Precinct, she began walking towards the dome. As she did, she took a quick inventory of her possessions. Both her guns, her spare ammunintion, her badge, wallet, house and car keys... nothing out of the ordinary. Certainly nothing to explain what she was doing here.
This had to an illusion, a hallucination, something. She was pretty sure there were no giant domes in Manhattan.
It was WAY too quiet. And not just in the lacking of car horn, screeching tires, sirens, and the general NYC populace. Elisa blinked as she realized not only was all that missing, but there was utter silence except for her booted footsteps. No birds, no crickets, nothing outdoorsy at all.
As she drew closer to the dome, she noticed that there was a large pair of gates, apparently molded right into the translucent side. In a single file line, people stood, apparently awaiting entrance. "Hey," she called, as she approached them. "What's going on?"
One of them turned to her. "No one really knows. Most of us just woke up and have no idea how we got here. Apparently, they're letting people through that gate up there."
Elisa frowned. That certainly didn't sound like one of the illusions created by the fey. From all her past experiences, the 'characters' of the illusion played right along with it. These people all looked and sounded as confused as she was. "Who's in charge?" she questioned.
"Probably the person up there," someone else replied, pointing at the head of the line. Over the tops of people's heads, Elisa could vaguely make out a person who looked like they were handing something out. Guess there's nothing to do but wait my turn, the detective thought, surreptiously zipping her coat up again. Depending on who these people were, she didn't want them to know right away that she was armed.
The line actually moved quickly, and Elisa vaguely wondered if she could import this sense of orderliness back to Manhattan. That would make her job worlds easier. Once she reached the front of the line, the person called "Next!" and she stepped forward, only to do a doubletake at the pale skin, blond hair and blue eyes. If the face hadn't been unfamiliar, she would have blurted out, "Owen??" because this person had the exact characteristics of Xanatos' aide.
"Name, please?" the person said in a bland tone.
Even the attitude is the same! Elisa almost laughed aloud, but cleared her throat and said, "Maza."
"Here's your journal and your information guide," the person droned. "Welcome to Paixao."
Taking the proffered book, Elisa stepped inside the dome -- and was immediately hit with a blast of wind and rain. Turning her collar up, Elisa spun around to see where she'd come from -- but the dome was opaque, and she could no longer see out. Still, hadn't it been sunny just a moment ago?
A flash of lightning and a crack of thunder assured the detective that, if this was a hallucination, it was a very convincing one. Stuffing the book she'd been giving inside her jacket, Elisa ran towards one of the surrounding buildings, trying to get out of the rain.
