Act One [Solo/Completed]

Character(s): Balthier
Content: entrance into Paixao, and then the beginning of The Epic Journey to Find Fran! XD
Setting: Muspelheim gate, train station
Time: late morning
Warnings: none

With a sigh of boredom, Balthier closed his electronic journal after his last electronic message to Fran and glanced offhandedly out of the train window. It hadn't been more than an hour or so since he'd appeared in this strange city outside an oddly decorated gate by the name of Muspelheim... but it had already seemed much longer than that. After waiting in line to enter this place for far too long, Balthier had hesitantly given the gate attendents his name, recieved a strange little electronic journal, and was shooed on inside. It was all much less official than it seemed like it should have been, but Balthier was grateful. It would only make finding a quiet way out (after he met up with Fran, of course) that much easier, after all.

Balthier found nothing of much interest out the window, and soon set himself to examining the journal. It was an odd little contraption that was capable of, as Balthier had just found out only minutes ago, holding text conversations between any two people that owned them, of writing in a 'journal' or sorts or even a messageboard, of bringing up a map of Paixao... and who knew what else? Balthier was only really vaguely interested in the thing. Airship engineering was much more his speed than electronic communication devices, but at least it was more entertaining to ponder then anything else he had come across so far.

And a welcome distraction from the annoying fact that these trains seemed to move about half as fast as even the slowest form of Archadian transportation.

Not that he was in any particular rush, really. Fran had promised to stay put and he would be meeting up with her soon enough. The citizens didn't seem to be particularly threatening from what he had seen so far, and he knew that Fran was more than able to take care of herself. She had always been strong and independent that way, ever since he had met her, Balthier mused. The smallest trace of a smile played upon his lips and his bored gaze returned lazily and unseeingly to the train window.

And yes, it was entirely taking up every ounce of power he had in him not to worry about The Strahl and what had become of it. He had just spent a small fortune on upgrades and new parts, and he hadn't spotted a single aerodome yet. Not exactly comforting. The only thing he could do for right now, though, was enjoy the ride. And so Balthier leaned back in his seat, resigning himself to the fact that he'd just have to discuss it with Fran when he caught up with her. They'd be able to come up with a plan, a way to make sure everything turned out alright. Didn't they always? Besides, he reminded himself, I'm the hero. And that means that everything will be perfectly fine again by the time the curtain comes down.
