So What Now? [Complete]

Character(s): Roxas, Dib
Content: The pair escape the chaos and violence at Paixao for Elysian Fields where they each discover something of interest to them.
Setting: Elysian Fields [D10]
Time: Afternoon
Warnings: Mild angst

Why did he keep running away? What was he really running from? The Dusks weren't something that should cause him even the slightest annoyance... or even make him think about petty things like this for that matter. He had arrived at a vast empty field of white grass. There was a barely noticeable breeze that swept the blonde's face: it was a pleasant feeling. It didn't calm him down but it was certainly much more comforting than what he felt in the city of Paixao.

Roxas shivered. It wasn't that it was cold... it was just...

Where in the world are you Sora?
If you're my Somebody, aren't you supposed to be somehow connected to me?

After a moment of musing, the Nobody took the liberty of taking several steps from the place that he "came from" and lay down, and closed his eyes. It was too quiet in this strange field: was it alright to even slightly relax like he was right now? At the thought, a pair of icy blue eyes was visible again. It was snowing here? Huh.. he didn't notice it before... Roxas lifted his arm in an attempt to touch an orb. It just scattered when his hand closed around it.

Again with the teleporting.

Dib began another bout of incoherency once he found himself in a place that was decidedly not where he had been a moment before. His derangement was further compounded by all the little white orbs that were falling from the sky. "AAAAAAAAAAAAGAAAAH!" he screamed, holding his hands over his head to shield his face from the aerial onslaught... that disintegrated harmlessly when they hit him. "...Oh. Heheh."

Once Dib noticed they weren't a weapon of some kind, he relaxed and lowered his arms. Now that he looked at them, the... things... were actually kinda pretty. "What are these?" he asked, gazing up at the sky. They almost seemed like balls of pure energy.

"Light?" Dib repeated, incredulous. That was impossible; light didn't behave like this at all! For one thing, it needed a... well, come to think of it, considering how whacked-out this place was, perhaps even light didn't behave the same way. After all, if this world was just a virtual contstruct then even the fundamental rules of physics would exist only as they had been programmed. Or perhaps this was a glitch in the system.

Dib's mind eagerly began to pick apart this new mystery. He spent a few seconds trying to catch one of the light-balls for closer examination, but that proved fruitless. Hmph. Fine then, be that way. Dib plopped down on the grass a few feet away from Roxas and gazed at the expansive fields surrounding them. "So now what?" he asked. After all, they couldn't just sit there.

Dib rolled his eyes, assuming Roxas couldn't see him. Wow, what an enlightening response. This was certainly getting nowhere fast. Perhaps if Dib were a more empathetic person, he would notice that Roxas was absorbed in some sort of inner ANGST turmoil, but Dib had never been empathetic and therefore didn't notice or care. "Anything. Riiight. Great." At least it was safe here. Since he had nothing better to do at the moment, Dib left a brief message for Lucifer (http://community.livejournal.com/paixaomb/34967.html#comments) in the hopes that the fallen angel would have learned something interesting.

It was then that Dib realized he'd never really been outside Paixao up to this point. And since nothing was trying to devour him, maybe he'd best look around a bit more. Maybe he'd recognize something...? Dib stood again and turned in a small circle, observing the entire landscape around him. Grass, paler than any he'd seen before. Some trees - real trees? - off in one direction, a good half-mile away. The faint glitter of water could be seen in the other three directions, meaning they were on some sort of peninsula or maybe an island. "What is this place?" Dib wondered. He wasn't so much addressing Roxas as voicing his thoughts aloud.

"Laptop. I built it myself. Well, most of it, anyways," Dib replied. He flipped the computer opened again and read Lucifer's response, his mouth twisting with skepticism. Riku, huh...? He didn't know why Lucifer was asking, seeing as there seemed to be a lot of people in this Paixao place. What were the chances that Roxas would know these random people? Pretty slim, at best.

...Well, it was worth a shot anyway.

Dib looked over at Roxas. "Hey, do you know some dude named Riku? Or maybe a girl named Kairi and a... um..." He peered at the name on the screen. Was this "Sora" a guy or a girl? Dib couldn't tell from the name alone. "... Or a person named Sora?" he finished finally.

Roxas's intense response caught Dib off-guard, making him jump a little. "I dunno!" he said, a little defensively. "Lucifer wanted to know if you'd heard of them. Why? What does this 'Sora' have to do with anything?" Dib would have thought that Roxas would care about Riku more than anyone - apparently the guy knew something about the Nobodies already, which made him interesting to Dib at least. Apparently Roxas had something else in mind...?

"Hold on a sec," he said, holding up one hand. "Let me see where they are. Then you and Sora can get back together." Maybe Sora was Roxas's girlfriend or something? It would explain why he seemed so intent on finding her.

"Him," huh? Well, scratch the girlfriend idea then. Not that it mattered that much anyway. "Lucifer says they're near Niflheim," Dib reported, snapping his laptop closed and slipping it into its carrier. "I'm assuming you want to go there right now?" he added, misconstruing Roxas's concern about communication for impatience. "Well, I'm ready whenever you are. You can meet up with Sora, and I can talk with Lucifer and maybe that Riku guy too. I think I've seen him on the journals before." By now he was thinking aloud more than anything.

He hoped there weren't any Nobodies around Niflheim.
