It all happened at once. There was the crunching and thwacking of something slamming repeatedly against the door, and then there was the creature who threw itself through the window. Things were now looking even better than before. The creature didn’t even seem fazed when it should have been torn to ribbons.

Akira wasn’t about to stay and watch this little show. The door would give in just moments. He looked around quickly, assessing the situation. There was a stairwell in the very back of the room, likely where Cordell had emerged from earlier. Cordell would be fine on his own. It wasn’t as if he owed him anything as it was, nor was he worth his time as a non-participant. All he had time to see was Cordell winding up to smack the creature before he turned and went deeper into the room.

It was time to go up, and up he went, taking the stairs two at once. If the creatures chose to pursue, he’d at least have a few seconds’ advantage to either hide or plan a better attack. If glass shards did little to the creature, he doubted his knife would do much better. As he reached the landing, he heard the crunch of the door giving at length.

Wonderful.
