To say Ai was excited to finally perform for someone new was an understatementTo say Ai was excited to finally perform for someone new was an understatement. She was nothing sort of ecstatic and to be singing for Kadaj no less? Ai swooned audibly, as she waited for him, sitting comfortably on a conveniently placed bench. She’d chosen a special outfit for today, home made of course. Barely able to contain herself, Ai took to looking left and right, knowing she shouldn’t have shown up so damn early.

Kadaj's reaction was... considerably more complex. He might have been more human in some ways than both Dream and the Corinthian combined, but he still wasn't about to give in to the onslaught of too-strong emotions Ai's singing evoked. The second he realized what was going on, he averted his eyes, hoping that would somehow dampen the effect. It didn't, but at least it gave him a chance to examine the reactions of the two others.

To his surprise, neither of them seemed to really be effected by it. If anything, the corinthian seemed more annoyed than ever, a fact which would have amused him more if he wasn't trying so hard to suppress any and all emotions at this point. Shifting his gaze to Dream, he was a little disheartened to see even less of a response. Was it just him...?

Inevitably, he found himself looking at Ai again. She was dangerous. Far, far too dangerous, and though he had hoped to control her, if she couldn't even effect an enemy of his like the Corinthian, there would be a very big problem. He might end up being controlled himself, and he could not let that happen. Kadaj knew full well that he was a puppet, but he was not this girl's. Jenova and Sephiroth had a stronger hold over him than her... he hoped.

He forced himself to stare down at the ground, crossing his arms over his chest almost protectively. He wanted to... he didn't know what. He wanted to do something, but what exactly it was.... He shut his eyes, trying to ward it off. He wanted to find Mother, and Yazoo, and Loz, and his big brother, and... be a family with them? No, that wasn't right. Cloud was supposed to die, not be accepted into the fold. And, more than that, Kadaj wanted...

The song finally came to an end. He hid his sigh of relief as best he could and looked slowly upwards, summoning his earlier pleasant smile and directing it towards Ai once more. "Yes, that was wonderful, Ai," he purred, the smallest hint of instability creeping into his eyes. She had to die. There was no question about it. After something like that... he shut his eyes again, fighting back against the lingering power of her song. No, he did not want to welcome her into his family, he wanted to control her. He couldn't do that if he was caught himself. Best to eliminate her before she posed a real threat to him and his cause.

He looked up at her again, his kind smile only intact because of the calm feelings still more or less in place. His arms were still crossed tightly over chest, however, belying his inner tension. How much longer would he have to keep up the act? Any second now one of the warring emotions would win out, and he didn't want to think of what would happen if the one that did was the one caused by her.

Now that they were done with that. The Corinthian had almost cast a glance back at Daniel. Instead he concentrated on still giving Ai a rather dirty look. He did not appreciate her song, or her singing, or her in general. They had been delayed long enough with this uselessness. The nightmare moved away from the group stiffly. Not enough to give the impression that he was leaving on his own, but enough to be blatantly rude.

"We're wasting time."

The scowl on his face darkened as Ai did some more personal bubble invading. She didn't have a right to do that. She didn't have a right to do anything. The Corinthian clenched his jaw and held his anger in check.

Those two were so amusing. Laughing quietly in the already retreating nightmare's direction, he said, "It was nice seeing you again, Mister Corinthian~" He would have laughed louder, but that was a little difficult with his arms still crossed. He would have to make up for that later.

To Dream he merely nodded, giving the man a faint smile and saying, "Thank you. I hope you find your sister soon, too." He almost surprised himself with the sincerity in his tone. Sure, it was mostly false, but there was still that real concern, however small it was. He blamed Ai.

Speaking of which... he looked towards her, a little uncertain about how to proceed. He still wanted to kill her, no doubt about that, but how should he do it? He would have to slit her throat, that was it, unless he could otherwise keep her silent while she died. A gag, perhaps? That was more suited to torture, though, and he wasn't in the mood for that (the man at the Morem o Lisboa was still fresh in his memory). That would probably only give her another chance to ensnare him anyway. Unless he cut out her tongue? Would she still be able to effect him if she couldn't form words properly? Maybe her vocal chords instead.

He eventually became aware of the fact that he had been staring at her for quite awhile, his expression anything but the pleasant mask he had been wearing earlier. Well, he had been getting tired of it anyway, but that put him in a rather awkward position now. Unless he finally decided to drop the act, that is.

Well, why not? There wasn't much else he could do. With a small sigh, he slowly uncrossed his arms and let the last vestiges of his calm, amiable persona fall away, the same mocking smirk he had given the Corinthian fully forming on his face in its place. "So tell me, Ai. Why did you choose a love song? Were you hoping I'd fall for you? Silly, silly girl..." He 'tsk'ed at her softly, shaking his head. "Things just don't work that way."

Kadaj's eyes narrowed slightly as he listened to her answer, looking for any sign of deceit. He wasn't nearly as good as that as he'd like to think, but the way she had backed away gave him enough of a clue that she wasn't being entirely truthful. Did she think he was stupid?

He began to walk towards her, keeping his movements slow, deliberate. In contrast, his words started coming faster, sounding irritated now. "No, I wasn't the only one in the audience, but you were planning on singing that song before they showed up, weren't you? Don't lie to me." He stopped just short of her, a faint crease appearing in his brow. "I don't think you succeeded at making everyone feel good anyway. The Corinthian didn't seem very happy about your song, and Dream didn't care at all. I was watching them-- why didn't it work? Tell me."

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-10-07 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Angels and demons?" Kadaj echoed, raising one silver eyebrow and looking away for a moment. Fancy that. She had to be lying. His smile widened slightly, his irritation fading into scornful amusement. "Well, whatever they were, angels and demons won't cover it. That man, Dream-- his sibling is an enemy of mine, and if you can't even effect him, I doubt you'll be able to do anything to it. As for the Corinthian, you should already know I don't get along with him. If all you do is make him worse, then you're not much use to me at all."

His gaze drew sharply back to her, his expression caught somewhere between annoyed and bemused. "'Appreciative?' Why should I be appreciative about something like that? There are precious few people whose opinions matter to me, and you, quite frankly, aren't one of them. Whether or not the rest of you people like me has never been important." He let out a sigh, turning his back on her and taking a few steps away. "This has been a waste of time. Do you know that? I should start looking again, instead of lingering here talking to you. Mother can't be kept waiting much longer."

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-10-07 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Kadaj hadn't been on his way to leave, and in fact hadn't been intending on leaving her at all (alive, at least), so he was a little surprised to see her appear in front of him again. She was very persistent... and still annoying. He moved away from her again, circling her slightly. It was hard not to be irritated at her now, with Mother still fresh in his mind. She'd be so disappointed in him if she knew he had spent his time on this pointless quest. He'd have to kill Ai as soon as possible to make up for it.

"I already let you try," he said to her, smiling at her desperation. It was just so funny. "I'm sure you were trying your hardest too-- you want me to stay around, be interested in you, things like that-- so there's no reason for me to believe you. Besides, I doubt you'd want to do what I want you to anyway. Destroy Paixao... or at least use your abilities to lead the way to Mother. Would you be willing to do that?"

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-10-07 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Reminding him of the songs effect on him had not been a good idea. Kadaj's smile froze slightly, then widened as he began to laugh very softly. "Your singing... yes, it did do something to me. Not what you wanted, though, and definitely not what I wanted." He didn't want to think about how easily it had effected him, especially when the others hadn't seemed to be effected at all. He wasn't weak, was he?

Thankfully, Ai's question about Mother managed to distract him. Expression brightening considerably, he explained, "Mother is the one that was supposed to be in charge of the Planet... not this one but Gaia, where I come from. The fools already there didn't deserve it-- she did. She went there to get rid of them, but luck was on their side..."

His good cheer slowly faded away, replaced with a quiet sort of melancholy. "She's been waiting all this time and still hasn't gotten what she deserves. She's done so much for us-- my family and I-- and received nothing for it." He smiled grimly, the expression gradually becoming more and more manic as he continued. "As soon as we find her, though, all of that will change for the better. She'll tell us what to do, take care of everything, and in return we'll be able to give to her everything she desires. She'll be happy. And... all of you thoughtless creatures will be out of the way for good."

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Family. That was a safe enough topic, right? Unfortunately... no. At first, though, Kadaj seemed perfectly amenable towards it, smiling a little more naturally (still looking fairly manic, however) and saying, "Yes, I have family here. At the moment it's just two of my brothers, but I'm sure Mother and Loz will be showing up soon. It just isn't natural otherwise." He giggled, clearly finding that hilarious for some reason. Neither of them would miss the Reunion...

"However," he said abruptly, amusement fading, "the traitor is one of them. The fact that he's here and the rest of them aren't bothers me, but nothing can really be done about it. Other than eliminating him, that is." The idea seemed to excite him, and he glanced up at her with another broad smile on his face, looking to see her reaction. And she was going to be eliminated too...

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Why did she have to start singing again? Kadaj pulled away from her again, closing his eyes and raising one hand almost absently to cover his ear. The song was already working on him, otherwise he would have just drawn his sword and killed her the instant he realized what she was doing. "Stop that..." he muttered, looking up at her again. He gritted his teeth, hoping that would somehow snap him out of it. It didn't.

Once she was finished, he shook himself roughly, still trying to break himself out of it. "Don't do that again," he snapped, but the words lacked any real bite. Well, he had tried. He forced himself to lower his hand, still eying her warily. "What did you hope to accomplish this time? You're only putting off the inevitable, you know."

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Her dear Kadaj? No. That wasn't going to work. He shook his head again faintly, glaring at her. "You mean you really don't know? I plan on killing you, along with everyone else in this city. Couldn't you tell?" He examined her almost curiously, wondering how she could have missed it. Was she really that oblivious?

She probably was. Shrugging, he began to circle her again, saying, "You've done more than enough to deserve it, you know. You've tried to control my feelings twice now, and I don't like that. Are you going to try to do it again? Because if so...." He raised one arm again, but rather than hold it to his head, he swept it outwards.

Immediately, a plume of black smoke shot out from under his feet, moving along the ground and finally materializing on top of it in the form of a snarling Shadow Creeper. He smirked as he watched it out of the corner of his eye, keeping the rest of his attention on Ai and how she was taking the creature's appearance. It wouldn't attack her until he ordered it too, but with the way it was clawing at the air and lashing its tail, it was hard to tell. "Well~?" he asked her, obviously pleased with himself. "Are you going to try? Or is it time for us to end this?"

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Kadaj wasn't quite sure what was happening at first. One moment Ai looked properly terrified at the Shadow Creeper, then she seemed almost... pleased about something...? And then she was kissing him. Him. Kadaj had never been kissed before, nor had he particularly wanted, well, anyone to do it. His initial reaction, other than the warm, fuzzy feeling brought on by whatever song it was she was using on him, was murderous rage.

She was damn lucky she had that singing ability, and that she had caught him so off guard in the first place. Otherwise.... The Shadow Creeper still standing nearby practically writhed in place, shaking its head from side to side as though trying to dislodge something, as its snarls becoming more and more reminiscent of screams. It wanted to kill her as much as he did, but even though Kadaj didn't rely on verbal cues to command it, whatever she was humming was disrupting his control of it (and himself) enough that it was as trapped as he was.

Thankfully, it didn't last long. The second she pulled away and began to run, Kadaj moved back as well, one hand lifting to scrub furiously at his mouth while the other gestured violently in the fleeing girl's direction.

Two more beings appeared in the swirling smoke that chased after, bringing the grand total of Shadow Creepers up to three. The one closest to her snapped its jaws at her back, reaching out at the same time to strike out with its claws at her legs. The two others soon joined it, one of them bunching its legs and springing at her to try and attack her from above.

If she wanted to get away, she'd have to do it fast because Kadaj was already starting to send yet another two after her, uncaring of the fact that she had no real way to defend herself. Quite frankly, she should have thought of that before she had decided to kiss him.

[I'm glad you're back now, but all the same I'd really appreciate it if the next time you decide to "throw in some drama," you ask me about it first. And by the way, you might want to look at this. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_mode)]

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-10-13 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Afraid? What a ridiculous idea!" Kadaj called to her, his tone a little harder than it should be for such light sounding words. A sadistic grin lit up his face at the sight of her blood, and he urged the Shadow Creepers onward with another wave of his hand. He liked the fact that she was putting up a fight, even if that only made his job harder. Where would the fun be if it was all so easy anyway?

Still, her luck would soon run out. Shadow Creepers could rival motorcycles in terms of speed and they never tired. It would only be a matter of time. Until then, though, he would enjoy this game of cat and mouse as much as he could.

The Shadow Creeper Ai had hit shrunk back only slightly, shaking its head and shrieking before darting back in with the others. All five of them now were closing in on her, their movements oddly coordinated as they advanced. With a sudden loud cry, they leapt into the fray as one, Kadaj's laughter ringing out over their snarls as he eagerly awaited seeing her body ripped to shreds.
